Mangalore: Jains observe ‘Mahaveera Jayanti’ in city

Mangalore, Apr 24: Mangalore Jain Society, Jain Milan, and Yuva Jain Milan, Mangalore, jointly celebrated ‘Mahaveer Jayanti’, the 2,612th birth anniversary of Lord Mahaveera at Shri Shanthinatha Swamy Basadi Basthi Garden in the city on Tuesday April 23.

The celebration included observation of all religious rites and functions.

In addition, the day also witnessed an installation ceremony of the new office-bearers for Jain Milan Association for the year 2013-14.

Shakunthala R Kini of All India Radio, Mangalore, was the chief guest during the stage programme. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized the lifestyle and values of Lord Mahaveera.

As part of the celebration, rituals like ‘Janmabhisheka’ to Mahaveera, ‘Ksheera Abhisheka Dhadhi’, ‘Arishina’, ‘Chathushkona Kalasha’, ‘Shri Gandha’, ‘Chandana Kanaka Abhisheka  Pushpa Vrushti’ were observed by devotees at the ‘Basadi’.  In addition, ‘namakaran’ of child Mahaveera was also ritually celebrated.    

Dignitaries like L D Ballal, Pushparaj Jain, Veer Rajesh M, Veer Darshan Jain, Veer Shobhakar Ballal, Jayamala Jain, and others shared the dais during the formal stage programme.
