Riyadh: Royston Prabhu re-elected president of Karavali Welfare Association

Riyadh, Apr 16: Royston Prabhu was unanimously re-elected the president of Karavali Welfare Association, Riyadh (KWAR) during its 6th annual general body meeting held on Friday April 12.
The programme commenced at 10 am with members and their families gathering in large numbers at the venue. Godwin Mendonca compered the event and initiated the proceedings, inviting Royston Prabhu, president, Parvez Ali, vice-president, Muzaffar Ali, general secretary, Rajesh Kumar, treasurer and ex-presidents Vijai Rai and Ramesh Shetty to the dais.
General secretary Muzaffar Ali presented a power point programme highlighting the objectives and achievements of KWAR during the year 2012-13, and spoke in detail of all the activities carried out during the year regarding achievements, charity, donations and plans for the future. Rajesh Kumar, the treasurer read the financial report of the year giving complete details and transparency. Both former presidents of KWAR Vijay Rai and Ramesh Shetty then took over the charge of conducting the election for a new committee. The present committee was dissolved and a 42 member new committee was formed which included several new faces.
A prominent personality Firoz Mulla (Vice-Principal of Al-Yasmin International School, Riyadh) has joined the Executive Committee of KWAR. Immediately after fresh elections to the new office bearers were conducted, the proposal of Royston Prabhu as new president went unopposed and he was unanimously elected president of KWAR for the year 2013-14. Parvez Ali was elected as his deputy (Vice- president) and Muzzaffar Ali was again elected as General secretary. Rajesh Kumar was chosen as Treasurer for the current year.
Prakash Shetty, Prasanna Rao and Suresh Suvarna were elected as cultural secretaries. Sports secretaries for the current year are Sathish Amin, Basker Salian and Aziz Bankal.
In his president’s speech Royston Prabhu thanked all the members for electing him for the consecutive second year and their confidence in him. He emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and helping the poor in society. He proposed a list of programmes for the current year and sought cooperation from all the members.
The programme ended on a charity note. KWAR donated a total of SR 4,660 to Vishwanath Shetty who was stranded in Riyadh and was going thru a lot of difficulty and struggling to go back to India. Further, treasurer Rajesh Kumar announced that during a recent interaction with visiting dignitaries from India Jayaprakash Hedge and U T Khader in Riyadh, KWAR had pledged to donate Rs 2,00,000 towards the benefit of the victims suffering in the Endosulfan tragedy.
A sumptuous lunch was organized, thanks to Yathiraj Malpe. The ladies wing headed by Amitha Prabhu conducted games for ladies and children and kept them entertained throughout the day.
