Riyadh, Apr 14: Konkan Ghar Riyadh (KGR) celebrated ‘Easter 2013’, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, on April 4 with the Konkani dialect community at Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. "Christ is Risen 'Alleluia' ", was the theme of the KGR Easter Celebration.east_140413-1 to 50
The celebration commenced with the short introduction elaborating the significance of Easter by Godwin Mendonca Mudarangadi. Alwyn Rodrigues Shriva welcomed the audience gathered at the venue.
Celin Mascarenhas Mukkamar led the short and sweet Easter prayer service in Konkani. Edmond Lewis Sastan delivered the Easter message to the audience.
On the occasion, with the leadership of Eric D’sa Pangla and Uday Rodrigues Mangalore, a new Konkani romantic music album ‘Tunch Moga’ composed by Prashanth Sequeira and Nelson Mathias under the banner of ‘USWAS (UAE’s St Mary’s Welfare Association, Shirva)’ was unveiled in Riyadh, by Kevin and Mueral Nazareth, Thottam.
Valediction function was arranged to; Carmin Vas Omzoor, mother of Ivan Vas and mother-in-law of Nita Vas, who leaves to India after her visit to Riyadh, was honored with memento and flower bouquet by Manoj and Savitha Aranha.
Beavan Mathias Shirva, son of Benedict and Maria Mathias, an active member of KGR, who bids adieu to Riyadh, to pursue his higher studies at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore was honored with memento and flower bouquet by Eric and Anita D’Sa.
The cultural event included the foot tapping dances performed by Eldrin Sequeira, Fredlyn Mascarenhas, Ashlyn Rodriques, Freeda Mascarenhas and Elita D’sa to the tune of “Pankaja” from the Kannada film - Hudugaru and “Radha Teri Chunri” from the film- Student of the Year (2012) that gave an opportunity for the budding talents to display their skills and secure a loud round of applause from the audience. Choreography to these dances was done by Eldrin Sequeira.
Edmond Lewis cherished memories of late Wilfy Rebimbus by singing the well known Konkani number “Hanv Yethango Ghati Devon”. Aster Vas Mangalore, a budding singer, with her melodious voice sung an English number and a Hindi movie song which was well appreciated by the audience.
The comedy skits “Maka Zaije Mulyar Zayjech” and “Picnic Special” performed by, Austin Menezes Miyar, Savita and Manoj Aranaha Shirva, Benadicta D’Souza Mudarangadi, Stanly Cardoza Pangla and Eric D’sa Pangala, made the crowd burst into laughter. Spot games and outdoor games were conducted by Royston Prabhu and Amitha Prabhu Bijai.
Asha Vas Mangalore recited the prayer before the meals. Very delicious dinner was catered by Stanly Cardoza. After the dinner Housie Housie game was conducted by Henry Gonsalves Kinnigoli. He kept the crowd entertaining by cracking jokes during the game. Vote of thanks was proposed by Prima Salvodar Fernandes Moodbidri.
Godwin Mendonca anchored the program in Konkani dialect and kept the crowd alive with his witty humors. The programme concluded with a Konkani Non Stop Baila, to which the audience tapped their feet and rocked the stage. All in all, the whole event which was buzzing with entertainment; dances, songs, skits and games succeeded in winning over the hearts of the audience.
