Mangalore: Perne tragedy claims another life - Toll rises to 10

Mangalore, Apr 13: Yet another person who was injured in the Perne gas tanker tragedy near Uppinangady passed away here on Saturday April 13, taking the death toll to 10.
The deceased is Indira (40), who was admitted in Father Muller hospital here.
Indira was a friend of Vimala, an anganwadi teacher who died on Friday in the same hospital.
On the day of the tragedy on April 9, Vimala had come to Perne to meet Indira, but even as they tried to escape, the fire caught them and both were critically injured.
They were first taken to Puttur government hospital and then shifted to Father Muller. Indira was said to have suffered 60 percent burn injuries.
Altogether, the Perne tragedy has claimed the lives of 10 persons so far. While six of them died on the spot, four others including Indira passed away in the hospital. The other deceased are Sunil (16), son of Seetharam from Perne, Guruvappa (30), a tailor by profession, Vanitha (38), wife of Narayan, her son, Shitesh (5), Shobha Rai (40), wife of Shankar Rai, Khateejamma, wife of Muhammed, Vasant from Soorikumeru in Bantwal, tanker driver, Cheluvarasan (35) from Tamil Nadu and Vimala (38).
