Bengal governor apologises to Presidency students

Kolkata, Apr 13 (IANS): West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan Friday apologised to the students of Presidency University for failing to prevent vandalism of its campus.

"I accept that as governor and chancellor, I have failed in my responsibility to you. I apologise to students of all universities of Kolkata and Bengal for what has happened," Narayanan said at a question-answer session with Presidency students.

The university campus, including its historic Baker Laboratory, were vandalised allegedly by activists of the Trinamool Congress students' wing Wednesday in retaliation for the heckling of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mitra in New Delhi by the CPI-M affiliated Students Federation of India.
