Chennai, Apr 10: Since ages, thieves have always been portrayed as running away from justice system. Stories since times immemorial have depicted interesting instances about thieves who are always on the run before the long arm of law catches up with them. But times seem to have changed, at least in the case of the following incident, which occurred a few kms away from the metro.
No one knows whether the thief concerned was in too much urgency to make money or he had scores to settle against the judge in question. The audacious thief took away the private laptop and the cell phone of a judge in Ponneri, about 35 kms away from here on Tuesday April 9. Knowingly or unknowingly, the thief, who intruded into the room of the judge unnoticed, has created embarrassment for the police and the court administration.
It is learnt that additional sessions judge, Nakkeeran, was hearing a case in the court complex at Ponneri, which falls in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu. His laptop and mobile phone were left behind in his room, which is located adjacent to the court hall. After attending to his duties, he returned to his room, and found to his dismay, that his laptop and mobile phone had gone missing. He sounded the police about the incident.
Although the police launched a search operation, they have not yet succeeded in catching hold of the thief. They strongly suspect that the thief was in the garb of an advocate. A case in this connection was registered by the police of Ponneri station.
The fact the seat of justice, which is expected to provide justice to the aggrieved, has itself become aggrieved in the case, has larger ramifications in the form of loss of faith in the police’s capacity to act against thefts in the court in spite of having a formidable presence there.
