Moodbidri, Apr 9: The Lokayukta police, who raided the office of the tahsildar here on Monday April 8 afternoon, caught the surveyor, P Manjunath, red-handed. Reportedly, the surveyor was receiving a bribe of Rs 1,000 at the time.
Manjunath reportedly insisted on payment of Rs 1,000 for issuing the sketch of land bearing survey No. 27/8P at Mantradi village, owned by Harish alias Hanumanthappa. After his repeated efforts failed to convince the surveyor to the needful in normal course, Harish approached the Lokayukta police.
The Lokayukta police took Manjunath into custody when he was returning after keeping the amount received from Harish in a book and then washing his hands. He was then questioned for over two hours.
On being produced in a court in Mangalore thereafter, Manjunath was remanded to judicial custody till April 20. Manjunath, who hails from Hassan district, had been transferred to the office of the tahsildar here about 18 months ago.
Lokayukta superintendent of police, C Mohandas, deputy superintendent of police, Vittaladas Pai, and inspectors, Umesh Shet and Dilip Kumar, conducted the raid along with some other personnel.
