Mangalore: Seeliya Simith from city chosen for skating tourney in Singapore

Mangalore, Apr 8: Seeliya Simith, a tenth standard student of Lourdes Central School in the city, has been chosen as a participant in the international speed skating tournament being held at Singapore. The tournament is being organized under the aegis of World Development Trophy Singapore, between April 8 and 14.
Seeliya is backed by the enviable record of winning a silver medal in 2011, gold medal in 2012, and three gold medals in 2013, at the ice skating competitions held at Shimla so far. She also emerged as the fasted ice skater, after winning the championship this year.
Seeliya was placed 17th at the Asian Short Track Speed Skating held at Beijing, China, recently.
Taking into account these achievements, Indian Ice Skating Association has picked Seeliya for the Singapore tournament.
Seeliya is the daughter of P A Muhammed Katipalla and Asma from Pandeshwar in the city. She is a member of Mangalore Roller Skating Association. She has been trained by Mahesh Kumar, as well as international trainers, Avadhut Tawade, and Srikant Mysore.
