Kundapur: Firing in Central Africa - French consul general visits victim’s family

Kundapur, Apr 1: French consul general from Bangalore, Eric Lavertu, and press attache, Hemangini Rakshit, visited the family of Krishnaiah Mogaveera, who lost his life in firing by French troupes due to mistaken identity at Bangui airport in Central African Republic on March 26, at their home in Kattu, Hemmady village in the taluk on Monday April 1.
Speaking to family members of Mogaveera and press persons on the occasion, Lavertu expressed his sorrow and regret at the unfortunate incident.
“We express our deep regret for this incident. We will hold inquiry into the incident within a month, and will take action based on the outcome thereof as soon as the report is received. Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has taken interest in the case, and has written to our office seeking immediate initiation of steps. We will arrange for disbursement of compensation to the family as soon as possible,” he promised.
Sources said that the body of Mogaveera reached Mumbai via New Delhi on Sunday, and that it would reach Mangalore by noon today. It is learnt that Uday, who was injured in the firing, will be accompanying the body. Shekhar, brother of Krishnaiah, will receive the mortal remains at Mangalore, upon which it will be delivered to the family through an ambulance. The family has made arrangements for the funeral today evening by 5 pm.
Uday, brother of Krishna Mogaveera, said that they could ensure early delivery of the body here by being in constant contact with the government there, with the support of Indian government and media.
