Mangalore: Unique Yakshagana play creates awareness on elections

Mangalore, Mar 31: A special Yakshagana play aimed at creating electoral awareness was held here on Sunday, March 31 at Bharath Mall, Bejai.
The play was held as part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation Plan (SVEEP) led by the district administration.
The play was inaugurated by deputy commissioner Harsh Gupta.
In his address, Harsh said that with a view to create awareness regarding the upcoming Assembly election among the general public, SVEEP has been introduced and as Yakshagana is the major cultural dance form of DK, a special awareness play in the form of Yakshagana has been organized here.
He further urged the gathering to spread awareness regarding elections among their family and friends and help the administration in doing its best in the coming days.
Zilla panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash, MCC commissioner Harish Kumar and other officials were present on the occasion. The programme was compeered by child welfare department officer Shyamala.
The play was enacted by the students of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya and Havyasi Balaga Kadri, led by Roshni Nilaya professor Vineetha. A large number of people gathered to watch the play.
