Mangalore, Mar 30: Faithful across parishes in the city celebrated the joy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ with the Easter Vigil Mass.
The Holy Week which began with Palm Sunday, culminates with the Easter Sunday. The last three days of the week - Good Friday Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday mark the crucification and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Holy Saturday is marked by vigil, waiting in contemplation and prayer, for the resurrection of Jesus. The Easter vigil service is held after dark on Saturday and before dawn on Sunday which itself is the day of joyous celebration of ressurection of Christ. The fifty days of Easter season conclude with Pentecost Sunday.
The Pascal candle and fire and holy water were blessed as part of the candlelight ceremonies.
The church organ was played once again on Easter vigil night after a brief silence during the Lenten season.
Thousands of devotees across the parishes in the city and around flocked to their respective churches and attended the Vigil Mass with much devotion. They lit candles signifying victory over darkness and path towards enlightenment.
Chanting of psalms and scriptures resonated in the air.
