Udupi / Mangalore, Mar 27: It's that time of the year when the entire country gets drenched in a myriad colours of joy. Holi brings with it the sweet fragrance of the spring and bathes the young and old alike in its spirit.
Holi celebration takes place with a lot of joy and energy throughout the country. The enthusiasm of the people reaches its peak as they drench each other in colours, throwing around water balloons, coloured water, sprinklers and what not.
Though Holi celebration is often on a low note in South India, the twin coastal districts with many educational institutes and students from various parts of India enjoyed the festival in full swing.
When it comes to Holi, people across boundaries come together and celebrate the festival as one. The more the colour on your dress the more you have enjoyed the festival.
“Bura na mano holi hai” - the phrase resounds as young and old alike get mischievous with the colours and spare no one. Children particularly enjoy the festival with colored balloons and water missiles and 'pichkaris'.
Traditionally, in the midst of these coloring games, Holi specialties like gujiya, malpuas, mathri, puran poli, dahi Vadas etc are savored and downed with glasses full of 'thandai'.
