Udupi: MIC student drowns at St Mary’s Island

Udupi, Mar 25:  A student from Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) drowned at St Mary's Island, on Sunday March 24.

The deceased has been identified as Kittu Jayaraj, a native of Kerala.

It is learnt that Jayaraj along with his friends boarded a ferry from Malpe to St Mary's. The boys were enjoying on the boat, when suddenly Jayaraj lost balance and fell into the water, and was washed away by the strong currents.  His friends' efforts to rescue him went in vain.

The body has been kept in mortuary and will be handed over to the family after observing formalities, informed Malpe police.

Malpe police have registered a case.

    What a sad news, and what kind of ferry was it. How can a person fall in water while enjoying inside. I am surprised. May his soul rest in peace.

    Sad news. May his soul rest in peace, Amen. I am reading so many drowning news every time. Just telling to take care. There should be danger / red flag to take precaution wherever the drowned cases happened. Municipality & police should put a small notice board telling how many have drowned in that area till now.
