Mangalore, Mar 23: Robbers tricked a family and looted them of gold and cash worth around Rs 2 lacs near Euro Gold jewellery store at Kankanady here on Saturday March 23.
Roshan and Belvira D'Souza, residents of Kuthar, along with their children had parked their car near Euro Gold while on their way after shopping at a mall. Roshan went away to buy a spare part for the car, while his wife and children waited in the car.
While Roshan was away, an unknown person approached Belvira and said that some currency notes belonging to them had fallen on the road on the driver's side.
Believing the person, Belvira got out of the car and began to look for the currency notes.
Meanwhile, another person, without her notice, opened the car door and stealthily made away with a bag that was on the seat.
It was later found that the ten-rupee notes were dropped on the road by the culprit himself to detract Belvira.
The bag contained gold worth Rs 2 lac, some cash, two ATM cards and a driving licence.
The culprits are said to have walked away, but no one suspected them until the robbery was discovered. It was only after they had escaped that the young children mentioned about the man opening the car door.
It is said that it might have been the handiwork of people who might have kept a watch on their movements.
Kadri police arrived at the spot. A case has been registered in the Kuthar police station.
Speaking to daijiworld, Belvira narrated the above incident and said they were hopeful that the Euro Gold CCTV camera might have captured the incident and help the police in tracing the culprits.
