Udupi, Mar 23: Close on the heels of a clash at Bengre, Malpe on March 20, trouble erupted against at Kemmannu here late night on Friday March 22 after a few people assaulted three youths of newly-formed Welfare Party of India.
As per initial reports, the youths were tying up a banner announcing the launch of their party when some people belonging to another community came to the spot and allegedly assaulted them.
However, Malpe SI Jayant Shetty told daijiworld that in the complaint lodged by Mohammed Asif, one of the victims, there was no mention of any banner or a communal clash.
As per the complaint, Asif, Hilal and Fadar Hussain were on their way to Ninjar from Hoode. At Kemmannu, three persons in a drunken stupor emerged from a bar and thrashed them with rods, before escaping in a bike. Police rushed to the spot and took the injured to a hospital where they were given first aid.
Unconfirmed sources claimed that the bar was also vandalized.
No arrested have been made so far. Police suspect that incident may be a result of the Malpe clash of March 23.
