Udupi, Mar 23: A protest was conducted by Malpe representatives and residents against the frequent load shedding; the protest was held in front of the MESCOM building, Udupi division on Friday March 22.
"The government is being ignorant towards the students who are preparing for their second PU exams. The daily routine in life require electricity especially for people who work in shops, laundries etc", they said.
"Electronic gadgets form an important part of our busy life, power irregularities cause a hindrance. The Maple fishing industry survives on ice plants for storage, which may soon close down due the load shedding," they added.
The protesters rued on and complained about food produces getting spoiled at the residences; while children and pregnant women are suffering due to the unbearable heat.
As far as load shedding is concerned, Udupi conducts the highest number of power cuts; the government is only concerned with the price hike and not concentrating about the unnecessary and unlimited power cut.
Udupi should be supplied with sufficient electricity, as promised by UPCL. The unit price should not rise, if needed a small level of load shedding should be allowed after declaring the power cut timing in the newspapers.
If the load shedding continues, protests will be conducted at a higher level, they claimed.
A memo was handed over to M Gururaj Suvarna (MSCOM Superintendent).
