Mangalore, Mar 23: The personal bodyguard of former chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation, N B Abubakker, fired in the air, reportedly in self-defence, when a gang tried to assault him. The incident occurred near Angaragundi mosque in Panambur here, on Friday March 22.
The bodyguard in question, Ranjeet, was standing outside the mosque by the roadside, as Abubakker had entered the mosque to offer prayers. At that time, a motor bike driven by Ismail, hit him, injuring Ranjeet in the leg. When Ranjeet objected to this, Ismail formed a group of several friends to assault Ranjeet, and even tried to wrest the gun. At that time, it is said, Ranjeet fired a round in the air.
Apart from the leg injury, Ranjeet also suffered minor injuries to his hands. A complaint against Mohammed Sharif, Abubakker, Siddiqui, Ibrahim, and Siraj, who are accused of assaulting Ranjeet, was filed in Panambur police station. Panambur assistant commissioner of police, Ravikumar, visited the spot.
