Los Angeles, Mar 22 (IANS/EFE): The Latino arm of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it is sponsoring a rescued chicken in honour of superstar Ricky Martin embracing vegetarianism.
The "Chicky for Ricky" is a bird named Olivia that is being cared for at Kindred Spirits Sanctuary in Florida, PETA Latino said.
"Ricky Martin has begun to live the vegetarian life and PETA Latino couldn't be prouder. Just in time for The Great American Meatout," the group said.
The Puerto Rican singer and actor signaled his conversion to vegetarianism in a Feb 26 tweet: "7 weeks on a vegetarian diet! I feel amazing!"
Martin "is not alone: people who become vegetarian increase their energy and diminish their risk of cardiac illness, cancer and obesity, an important concern for Latinos", PETA's Renee Saldana said.
