Mangalore: Star-studded World Bunts Day in Mumbai on April 14

Mangalore, Mar 21: "World Bunts Day will be celebrated on April 14 at Buntara Bhavan in Mumbai," said CA Shankar B Shetty president of Bunts Sangha, Mumbai.
Addressing a press meet at Bunts Hostel on Wednesday March 20 evening, he said the programme's main aim is to encourage social service and patriotic spirit. "Nearly 5000 Bunts from around the world will participate in the day-long convention that will include a panel discussion and unveiling of the Bunts Anthem and the logo as well," he said.
The programe will be jointly inaugurated by Odiyoor Swamiji, Vajradehi Swamiji and Kemar Swamiji. A special issue of “Taranga” with 64 pages will be released on the occasion.
A star-studded valedictory has been planned, with Bollywood celebrities Aishwarya Rai, Shilpa Shetty and Sunil Shetty as the main attractions. Other personalities like Justice Santosh Hegde, Pooja Shetty, political leaders, and IAS officers will also attend the programme.
Achievers in various fields will be felicitated on the day. Mutual exchange of views and thoughts and fostering of unity will be the important aspects of the event, Shankar Shetty said.
"There are nearly 25 lac Bunts worldwide, nearly 50 to 60 Bunts associations in Karnataka and more than 20 in Maharashtra. Nearly 5 lac Bunts are settled in Maharashtra. Bunts community has been indulging in social activities from nearly 82 years. Bunts have made their mark in the field of education as well," he said.
"There are nearly 10,000 Bunts students studying, out of which nearly 1,000 are pursuing their education free of cost. The main aim of organizing this programme is to encourage Bunts to get together and join hands in preserving and enriching the true heritage, culture and tradition of the Bunt community and take it forward to the next generation," he added.
Bunts community leaders Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, CA Sadashiv B Shetty, CA Satish N Shetty, Ulthur Mohandas Shetty, Praveen Bhoja Shetty, Amarnath Shetty and Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi were also present.
The organizers have urged the people to send in their logo and anthem to the nearest Bunts Assocaition by April 5. The best anthem and logo will be declared on World Bunts Day.
