Mangalore, Mar 21: ‘Konkani Ahaararogya’, a unique programme stressing on health benefits obtained from food, was organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at the academy office in Lalbagh on Wednesday March 20.

The programme was inaugurated by Philomena Lobo, principal, Government College for Teachers’ Education while Kasargod Chinna, Academy president, presided over the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Lobo said the dietary habits of the people of the coastal regions is similar. She said our health will be good and we will live longer if we only keep tabs on our eating habits; but the present generation is not following this.

Another point she stressed on and asked people to follow is to eat at least one meal together with their family which she said would improve mental health and happiness in the family.

Chinna, in his presidential address, said this is a unique programme organized to recall what our elders taught us about food and health. “Most of us still do not know why some items are used when preparing food and what its benefits are. We should maintain discipline in food and have  a balanced diet through which we can maintain good health,” said Chinna adding that today’s generation was fully dependent on fast food.

On the occasion, the Academy honoured prominent physician Dr M D Kamath and Reena Veetha D’ Souza, award winning teacher from St Agnes Special School.

Devdas Pai, registrar, Roy Castelino, Dr Roopa Pai, Irin Rebello, Geetha C Kini, and Ashok Shet were among those present.
