Mangalore: Karavali Group of Colleges holds splendid graduation ceremony

Mangalore, Mar 19: The graduation ceremony of Karavali Group of Colleges was held at Karavali Institute of Technology, Neermarga here on Tuesday March 19.

Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha MP inaugurated the programme along with other dignitaries on the dais.

Oscar's wife Blossom Fernandes was the guest of honour while S Ganesh Rao, founder and managing trustee, GR Rducation Trust presided over the function.

Inaugurating the graduation ceremony, Oscar Fernandes began his speech by playing a mouth organ to the tune of ‘We Shall Overcome’.

"In a student’s life, graduation day is most important and highly cherished. It is a day where we say that we are equipped to lead a scholarly life," said Oscar.

"The institution which came into existence in 1996 began to render education to 9 students and it has now grown into a giant institution offering more than 36 courses. I wish that Karavali College would grow to greater heights and soon be a university," he said.

There is a plan of achieving 30% gross enrollment ratio in universities. The sad part in our country is that, none of the Indian universities secure a place in top 200 universities in the world. It is because our institution lack behind in research and in attracting foreign students said Oscar asking Karavali college to inculcate research culture which will be a add on to be an university.

"For students to choose among two aspects - to get employed or give employment to others - I would suggest them to be give employment to others by being an entrepreneur. There is demand for three main sources in the world to generate energy from - the sun, sea and wind," said Oscar and asked students to work on these principles.

Oscar Fernandes stressed on the importance of empowering women. "If you empower women, you will empower the society and the country on the whole," he added and wished South Canara to be a hub for education in a greater way.

As a symbol of gratitude, Ganesh Rao and Latha G Rao, director of the Karavali Group felicitated Oscar Fernandes and Blossom Fernandes.

Ganesh Rao in his welcome address briefed about the College. "The dedication and support of the staffs and students has made the college to grow at a greater level and is top in the town when it comes to placement," he said.

The college which offers more than 36 courses has obtained results between 95 to 100% every year and it grants scholarship to several and free education to at least 50 students, he added.

More than 500 graduate students from different streams like BE, B Sc Nursing, B Pharma, Bed, MSW, BBM, BCA, BSc interior designing, BSc fashion designing, BSc hospitality science and others were awarded with their graduation certificates by Oscar Fernandes.

Rohan Monteiro, managing director of Property Infratech limited, PV Mohan, Badruddin, corporator Naveen D’Souza, Dr Narayana Swamy, principal of Karavali college of Pharmacy, Dr P Rajendra Prasad, principal of Karavali Institute of Technology, professor B Anand, principal of Karavali college of education, professor Mohan Naik, principal of Karavali college, professor Ismail Khan, principal of Karavali Polytechnic, Kanakamma, principal of Karavali institute of education, professor Sathya Shenbega Priya, principal of Karavali College of Nursing among others were present.

Speaking to the media after the graduation ceremony Oscar Fernandes commented on the forthcoming election candidate list and said, "The state committee has already met. Meetings by the screening committee and the central committee will also be held after which the final list will be announced."

When asked about the name of the candidate for CM post, he said the decision will be made by the higher authorities along with the elected representatives.
