Update: March 20
Mangalore, Mar 20: The family members of Pramila, who was found dead hanging by a tree in a wooded area near Kadri Park on Tuesday March 19, have claimed that her death was not a suicide and that she had been murdered.
Speaking to media persons at Wenlock mortuary here on Wednesday March 20, Pramila's father Ammu Poojary said that Pramila was not at all the kind of girl to even dream of committing suicide.
Pramila, who was among the two daughters and three sons of Ammu Poojary, had come to Mangalore a year back to pursue a computer course. She was also working part time at a clothing store and was staying in a hostel at Kadri.
"She was soft-natured and would never even dream of ending her life. She had called home on Sunday March 17 and had visited her native place in Dolpady last month. There was no problem and she was fine even when she called home on Sunday," Ammu said.
Her close relative's wedding was fixed for Thursday March 21, and Pramila had said that she would be coming home on Tuesday or Wednesday to attend the function.
Alleging that Pramila had been murdered, Ammu said that there her hands were bruised and there were scratch marks like ones made by fingernails on her chest.
However, police reportedly said that the marks on her chest were caused by a bee sting.
Ammu refused to believe the police theory. "Bee stings will not show scratch marks. They were caused by fingernails. It is definitely not a case of suicide and is purely a murder," he claimed.
Her teacher at the computer course center, who did not want to disclose his name, said that Pramila was a soft-spoken girl who mingled with everyone and participated in every class activity. "Any time there was an event or some celebration, Pramila would actively take part. She was punctual to class even on Mondays when most of the students would take leave or be late to class," he said.
He said that on Monday March 18 she had come to class as usual at 7.15 am and had left at the end of the class. On Tuesday she was absent. It has been surmised that she died on Monday night.
Pramila's body was found on Tuesday late afternoon by a passerby in a wooded area near Kadri Park. Her mobile phone and ATM cards were found at the spot.
Kadri police have registered a case of unnatural death.
