Beltangady, Mar 16: “Language is the major differentiating factor between man and animals. Unlike animals, man can think and express through a medium outlet called language. It’s because of language that human has survived till now since ages and it has to be carried forward to the coming generations,” said Narendra Rai Derla, distinguished Kannada columnist.
He was speaking on the occasion of release of ‘Jaala-The trap’, a short movie by Chethan K C and team, students of SDM College, in association with department of journalism of SDM College, Ujire.
By quoting the examples of legendary Kannada writers like Kuvempu and Poornachandra Tejaswi, he emphasized the need to develop sensitivity to become a good writer and journalist.
Professor BhaskarHegde, head of department of journalism, welcomed the guest and the gathering.
Dr B P Sampath Kumar, head of department of Kannada was also present on the occasion. This was followed by screening of the short movie to the gathered audience.
Winning is an event, keeping on winning is the spirit - Dr H Madhav Bhat
Beltangady, Mar 16: “Success shouldn’t be accidental but should possess merit in it. Along with savoring success, students must be taught to cope up with failure. This is the actual meaning and purpose of education. One should always realize that success isn’t all and mistakes paves the path for new learning,” said Dr H Madhav Bhat, principal, Vivekananda College, Puttur.
He was speaking on the occasion of prize distribution ceremony organized at Indraprastha auditorium of S D M College, Ujire. Being the chief guest of the program, he emphasized the importance of objective of the education which is to help a community discover its voice. He concluded his speech by quoting the late American president Abraham Lincoln’s statement that “Winning is an event, but keeping on winning is the spirit”.
Dr B Yashovarma, principal, S D M College presided over the proceedings and gave the presidential remarks. Professor Dinesh Chowta, vice principal, S D M College was also present on the occasion.
Earlier, prizes were distributed to various academic and sports achievers. ‘Noraaru Kanasu’- a collection of Kannada short stories brought out by the Department of Kannada, ‘Spoorti’- a house journal brought out by the Department of sports about the sports achievements by the students and ‘Cerebral palsy’- a documentary by Arun Kumar and team, student of S D M College, were released by Dr B Yashovarma, principal of S D M College in the latter part of the event.
Yathish Shetty, president of student council, welcomed the guests and the gathering while Ishwar Chandra, secretary of student council proposed the vote of thanks.
