Doha, Mar 16: Karnataka Sangha Qatar will host its 4th Invitational Cricket Tournament 'Karnataka Cup 2013', the most sought-after cricket tournament in Qatar, from March 17 to 28 at Old Ideal School Ground.
This year Qatar sports icon, bronze medalist at recently held London Olympics and Dakar Car Rally champion Nasser Salih Al-Attiyah will grace the opening ceremony as guest of honour. Host of other dignitaries and community leaders are expected to attend the function.
On March 9 the group fixtures for the tournament were held at Grand Qatar Palace Hotel. Participating team captains, team managers and KSQ organizing committee members, prominent members of the community were present.
Sports secretary Anil Boloor initiated the meeting and president of KSQ V S Mannangi welcomed the gathering.
Mannangi also informed the gathering that former all-rounder of Indian team Sunil Joshi will be guest of honour for this year's closing ceremony and he will be present during semi-finals and finals of the tournament.
Vice-president Dr Sanjay Kudari and Cricket Committee member, Zafar Abbasi briefed the tournament details and read out the rules and regulations of the tournament and also handled the questions and answers session. General secretary Deepak Shetty proposed the vote of thanks
There are 12 teams participating in the tournament, and they are as follows:
Chidanand of M Pallonji Qatar is the main sponsor, Al Muftah Contracting, ALMA, HBK, Qatar Design consortium and Castle construction are the associate sponsors for the Tournament.
All the participating teams are requested to be present on time for the grand opening ceremony at Old Ideal Indian School Ground on March 17th at 6:30pm sharp, after which the matches will commence.
The match schedule would be announced after the opening ceremony. KSQ has appealed to all the cricket lovers in Qatar to come and watch the spectacular tournament and extend their whole-hearted support to the participating teams.
