Bantwal, Mar 16: Workers of an organization intercepted a vehicle that was illegally transporting items belonging to a fair price shop, on Friday March 15, at Bobbekery on Vittal-Mangalore road on Friday March 15. 150 litres of kerosene and a gunny bag full of rice found in the car, as well as the person who was found transporting the goods, were handed over to the policemen.
The Vittal police have arrested Dayananda from Bantwal, who is an employee of the department of education, in this connection. Along with the above goods, the ambassador car in which they were being taken was also confiscated by the police. Deputy tahsildar in the department of food and civil supplies department, Sridhar, who verified the goods, confirmed that they belong to the fair price shop. He also locked up the fair price shop in question. Aruna from Kepu, who was running the shop, is absconding.
There were complaints that the above fair price shop, located at Bobbekery, did not issue ration items properly to the card holders. Volunteers of Vittal Friends, an organization based in Vittal, who were keeping an eye on the operations of the said shop, were tipped off on Friday afternoon about the fact that ration items were being smuggled in a car from the said shop.
The workers of the organization, who stopped the car, called the police thereafter. The police have registered a case.
