Mangalore, Mar 14: Fifteen newly-elected corporators were on Thursday March 14 felicitated by Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza at the Bishop's House here.
Addressing the corporators, the bishop asked them to serve their people earnestly and selflessly and work unitedly for their while catering to their needs.
He also dwelt on the need for a capable candidate from the community for the upcoming state Assembly elections so that the problems and issues facing the community can be dealt with effectively.
Advocate Melwyn Noronha in his address said that the corporators had made the diocese proud by winning the local body elections. The real task of the corporator is in serving his or her people, and that should be the goal of all the corporators, he said.
He further said that their win had strengthened the commmunity and called upon them to contribute towards the welfare of the people both by providing them basic facilities like good roads and drainage systems, and also giving them moral support by visiting their homes from time to time, listening to their problems and resolving them.
Fr J B Crasta welcomed while Nigel Pereira thanked the gathering. Among those present were Mangalore diocese PRO Fr William Menezes, vicar general Fr Denis Moras Prabhu and Gerald D'Costa. Lancelot Pinto spoke on behalf of the coroporators and thanked the bishop and the diocese for supporting them.
