Mangalore: Man defrauds shop owner with fake DD of Rs 1.98 lac

Mangalore, Mar 12: A complaint of fraud has been lodged against a customer who purchased goods worth Rs 1.98 lac from an electrical store after submitting a fake demand draft (DD) here on Monday March 11.

As per the information obtained, the customer had submitted a demand draft to Jairam electrical store near Bhavanti Street here after purchasing goods worth Rs 1.98 lac.

The fraud came to light only when the owner Arun Shetty went to the bank to submit the DD for clearing.

A case has been registered in the Bunder police station.

    Arun Shetty should have verified bonafides about the draft in local bank branch before parting the merchandise to the seller.Shop keepers should always be cautious and verify the identity documents while entertaining big customers who are unknown till then.Nowadays Jewellers ask for photo identity card's copy while swiping credit/debit cards for higher amounts of sales.
