Mangalore: Eye-catching flowers, fruits on display at Kadri Park

Mangalore, Mar 9: The flower and fruit exhibition organized by the horticulture department, zilla panchayat, district administration, and Siri Horticulture Association was inaugurated by Dr Mohan Alva, president of Alva’s Education Trust at Kadri Park here on Saturday March 9.
N Prakash, deputy commissioner inaugurated the honey exhibition, Dr K Harish Kumar, MCC commissioner inaugurated the vegetable garden while ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash presided over the function.
The inauguration of the exhibition was followed by a formal stage programme at the premises.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mohan Alva noted that the exhibition was well-planned and well-executed. "The exhibition has been conducted mainly to create awareness among the urban people on the necessity to preserve the environment and indulge in beautification of nature," he said, adding that flowers play an important role in Indian culture.
Dr Alva said that he was extremely happy to be part of this exhibition and said it is every individual's duty to preserve the nature.
Laxmirao Aroor, vice-president of Siri Horticulture Association, K Nemiraj Konde, deputy secretary, NVK Bhatrakodi, treasurer, Sharada Achar, Shashi V Shetty, Vijayalaxmi R Rao, Judith Mascarenhas, Dr Bharathi Nirmal, Yogesh HR, deputy director of Horticulture department, ZP, Joe Pradeep D’Souza, senior deputy director among others were present.
The flowers and vegetables have been displayed in a creative manner and flowers grown in different climates are also showcased.
The exhibition displays a wide-ranging variety of flowers, vegetables and fruits, all arranged in neat and innovating ways. There is also a watermelon carving featuring faces of well-known political personalities and several others which left visitors marveling at the expertise.
Overall, the entire park is decked beautifully in flowers and fruits of all colours, sizes and shapes.
Several stalls by ISIRI herbals, Hopcoms (under department of horticulture), Alva Pharmacy, Alia Orchid Care, Kissan Agro tools, Siri Horticulture association, Watershed development department and several others have been placed at the venue.
