Mangalore, Mar 5: In a bizarre incident, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Srikala was attacked by a stray dog during duty hours at Mahakali Padapu here on Tuesday March 5.

Srikala was on night duty at Mahakali Padpu checkpoint along with another policeman identified as Bhimappa.

At around 4 am, as she felt drowsy with sleep, she decided to take a small walk around the area.

Srikala and Bhimappa were walking around when all of a sudden a stray dog appeared from out of nowhere and attacked her. The dog bit her leg, injuring her badly.

Bhimappa was unhurt. Srikala was rushed to Unity hospital where she is recuperating.

Srikala is part of Pandeshwar police.

We aspire to be a superpower. We will get there with a great navy, air force, nukes and satellites. But that is only one measure of a superpower. What about national minimum standards on stray animals allowed on streets? We worship cows, but that does not mean that we let them stray in traffic. Stray dogs wander our streets at will, kept in check from attacking humans only be scare tactics and handily available stones to throw at them. We have people urinating and spitting in public. I would venture to state that even some African countries have better civic sense. Apart from a general public apathy towards these matters, there are no state or national policies regarding these issues. Politicians do not think it is important enough to bring this up for debate due to public apathy. There may be larger problems to solve, but an aspiring superpower needs to address these basic issues as well.

What a bad news! She will get well soon. She should carry a danda always. Looks like Hemam Malini in one of the films. They should wear gamboots if they like. They should be very active and fight with dog, thieves, etc. Bhimappa also had no danda in hand? Surprising. All must carry a danda (stick) in hand hereonwards. I want strict rule for all police.

Why cant the MCC catch all the Stray dogs. Most of the time they cause problems to two wheelers in the middle of the road they sleep and the riders cant even notice them in night especially the black ones and it results in minor accidents. because of no control over these they breed also without control.
