Mangalore, Mar 4: The inmates of Mangalore district jail on Sunday March 3 protested against the arrest of advocate Nooruddin in an alleged conversion and kidnap case. Nooruddin too protested along with the jail inmates.
Nooruddin was arrested by the Puttur rural police for assisting in the alleged conversion of a girl from Paltady village, Puttur, to Islam.
The inmate protesters alleged that the advocate has been arrested for giving legal help to the other two accused in the conversion case. "In every case, a lawyer is required to defend the accused. As long as it is not proved in the court of law, every accused is innocent. Advocate Nooruddin was there among two other accused to provide legal advice, he cannot be treated as an accused," they contented.
"His arrest is illegal, and should he be released immediately," the inmates stated in a memorandum to jail superintendent of Mangalore.
The jail officials assured that their letter would be sent to deputy commissioner N Prakash.
