Cops throw old couple off moving train, woman dead

Lucknow, Feb 27 (IANS): In a shocking incident, an elderly woman was killed and her husband wounded when the couple was thrown out of a moving train by government railway police (GRP) personnel for boarding the wrong train, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at Muzaffarnagar, when the elderly couple, by mistake, boarded the Shatabdi Express. Rajeshwar Tyagi and his wife Santosh were both above 70 years old.

Sub-inspector Ram Chandar and constable Subhash of the GRP asked the couple where they were headed. The couple responded that they were on their way to Saharanpur, only to be told that they were on the Shatabdi Express, which does not halt at Saharanpur.

The cops asked the elderly couple to deboard, something, they pleaded, they could not do as the train had gathered speed by then.

Incensed, the policemen opened the door of the compartment and pushed the old couple out.

The woman was hit by a train moving on a parallel track and died instantly, while the man received minor injuries on the fall.

A case against the two GRP policemen was registered at the Muzaffarnagar railway station.

"We have sent the body of the deceased woman for autopsy. Based on the statement of Rajeshwar Tyagi, we have lodged a case against the two policemen," a GRP official told IANS.

Ms. Anita Prabhu, Vancouver, BC, you seem to be an educated woman. How can you relate a single incident to entire country where more than 1.3 billion people live. There are loop holes in every country and Canada is no exception. I am an Indian and I am proud to be an Indian. We have more culture than the miserable white families of Canada and north Americas

This is not Indian Culture, but the culture of Indian Police Force which was created by British Imperial Govt. to protect their interests in India.

Even though we got freedom, the mindset of the Police have not changed.

The present political class is worst than the Britishers and they want this mindset to continue, in order to serve their own interest.

We are unlucky to get Nehru, a puppet of Britishers, as our First Prime Minister in stead of Patel.

Now, we have another opportunity to change for a bright future.

We shall elect Modi for a shining India.

There had been a few instances of thieves pushing passengers out of a moving train after robbing off their valuables. But the same criminal act committed by the so called protectors of law and order, that too against an elderly couple for unknowingly boarding the wrong train is indeed horrible and disgusting. A crime against all human norms, beyond human imagination. These cops shouldn't go unpunished and should be a lesson to all arrogant heartless people in uniform.

Inhuman. How can we forget the hands that rocked our cradle? How can we forget those hands that held us close to their heart just to make us feel secure when we were toddlers? God please help these elderly who belong to "age minority" group who have no security in this inhuman world.

This is sheer arrogance by these goon cops. We ought to respect our senior citizens. Whatever be the reason these policemen lack attitude and grace. Perhaps they have not studied the basics in life how to treat a fellow human being. Most disgusting.
