Mangalore, Feb 25: Adding to the number of incidents of the fake SMS lottery scam, a man from Ullal lost Rs 70,000 succumbing to the fraud.
Yashodara from Ullal, a tailor by profession in Karangalpady was the person who got trapped into the SMS lottery scam.
A few days ago, he received a SMS stating that he has won Rs 50 lac and in order to avail his reward he had to deposit a sum of Rs 1 lac. Falling prey to this, Yashodara deposited Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 in three separate installments at the Bihar and Kolkata branch. It was during the payment of the fourth installment where he got a doubt.
Sources said that, despite being alerted by a Mangalore banker, Yashodara blindly believed the SMS which he received.
A case is registered at the Bunder police station. Police have alerted people not to get ropped into these messages.
