Mangalore: Tribute to legendary singer Wilfy Rebimbus on Mar 10

Mangalore, Feb 23: It will be three years in March since Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus passed away. While Konkani music lovers and countless ardent fans miss him, the legend’s songs have kept his memory alive in their minds and homes all over the world.

This year on his third death anniversary, a ‘Wilfy Rebimbus Day’ with the theme ‘Celebrating Womanhood Through the Songs of Wilfy Rebimbus’ will be presented on Sunday March 10, at Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore. Many prominent and new singers and performers from in and around the city have come together to make this unique programme a success.
Alwyn Noronha, Prem Lobo, Claud D'Souza, Babita
Alwyn Noronha, a reputed composer, has come forward to perform and will be presenting three of Wilfy’s songs in specially composed harmony with his troupe of 12 women singers from Bajpe.
Zeena Pereira, Munita Veigaas, Aswin D'Costa, Anjali Andrade
While Meena, Veena, and Vishwas will be rendering a song each, the regulars of Wilfy’s troupe, Prem, Claud, Babita, and Munita along with seasoned performers Zeena Pereira and Meera D’Souza from Anjelore will also be performing. There will be a few upcoming singers with great voices and presentation skills like Ashwin D’Costa and Anjali Andrade with Rynal, Sunil from Kulshekar, Sylvia Fernandes, Aveena D’Souza, Noreen Miranda, Joylene and Joslene from Milagres, the singing couple Suraj and Arunaa Noronha from Bondel, and Oshin Theodore from Jeppu are all set to sing many beautiful and meaningful songs from Wilfy not heard in many years.

While the music is being directed by Joswin Pinto, ace compere Leslie Rego will be hosting part of the show. Celebrated poet Melvyn Rodrigues and experienced anchor Concepta Alva along with Eddie and Charleen will be introducing the songs. There will be beautiful dances choreographed by Shaila and two others by super-talented Gavin Rodrigues. Actors under the direction of Dolla enacting some of the songs are sure to make this evening a pleasantly memorable one.

As this event is celebrating womanhood and March 8 being ‘Women’s Day’, the organizers have managed to get renowned social worker and former deputy Mayor of Mangalore Judith Mascarenhas to be the honoured guest along with Meena Rebimbus.
Already, a few well-wishers have come forward from India and abroad to sponsor this show. The funds remaining after the show will once again be utilized to help needy cancer patients through the Rebimbus family. As entry to this show is free, the organizers have requested all those who would like to attend to be there on time as seating is on first-come first-serve basis.
