Mangalore: Cigarette packs without statutory warning seized at Airport

Mangalore, Feb 16: The officers of customs at Mangalore Airport on Friday February 15 seized commercial quantity of 83 cartons of foreign-made cigarettes totally valued at Rs 83,000, from three passengers.
The passengers have been identified as Shaidu Manakkad Thekke Peedikayil and Moideenkunhi Bangarakunnu Abdulla from Kasargod, and Kunhikoya Thangal from Bantwal.
They had arrived by Air India Express flight IX 384 from Dubai.
The cigarette cartons and packets are liable for confiscation as they do not bear statutory pictorial health warning as prescribed under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Rules, 2008 and the amendment Rules, 2009, stated a press note from commissioner of Mangalore customs D Purushottam.
