Udupi, Feb 10: The district Nagarika Vedike organized a rally and protest against unscheduled load shedding and the hike in price of rice at the service bus-stand on Friday February 8.
The rally saw the participation of school children and began from Diana Circle before culminating near the service bus stand.
Speaking on the occasion, Nithyananda Olakadu, president, Nagarika Vedike, said that the trend of increase in price of rice is depressing and affects many of the poor.
“Price of rice should be controlled soon. In the budget, the chief minister should have declared reduction in the price of rice. Impulsive load shedding must also be stopped,” he added.
“Students will face problems due to power cuts because within two months they will have exams. Limitless power cuts above and beyond normal is a nuisance,” said Olakadu.
He appealed to the government to consider it a serious issue and to take necessary action.
During the protest, children were served rusks and plain rice symbolizing the pathetic situation.
