Mangalore, Feb 7: A two-day national seminar on 'Effective Leadership - Organizational Change Management' was inaugurated by St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, St Aloysius College Thursday February 7.
The seminar was inaugurated by Lakshmi Narayan, Group general manager, HR- MRPL who was the chief guest and P A Jose, deputy general manager from MRPL delivered the keynote address. Fr Denzil Lobo, director AIMIT, Dr Oswald Mascarenhas, chairman, AIMIT- MBA programs, Dr Rowena Wright, dean MBA, Dr Babu Thomas and Prathiba Shetty, coordinators of the seminar, were also present at the inaugural function.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with a prayer song led by the college choir and the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. It was then followed by the welcome speech by Dr Rowena Wright who introduced the dignitaries on the dais. She welcomed the delegates and appreciated the contribution of all the paper presenters from across the country.
Lakshmi Narayan gave an inspiring speech on the transformation of MRPL in 1993 by the late Sudhir Raha of ONGC from a loss making firm to a Navratna Company. He also gave the audience deep insights into MRPL, highlighting its high contributions in the field of petrochemicals in India. He concluded his speech by explaining how most great leaders have overcome failures and emerged successful through sheer determination and dedication.
Fr Denzil Lobo in his message gave examples of the leadership exercised by a group of men since 1548 in various fields. He said that self awareness, ingenuity, heroism and love are very important ingredients of effective leadership.
The chairman, MBA department, Dr Oswald Mascarenhas gave a bird’s eye view of the seminar highlighting the contributions of all the presenters and their various points of view about leadership. He also spoke about the importance of servant leadership and spiritual leadership in the present world as well as need for an individual to have a high emotional quotient as compared to an IQ to be a great leader. He concluded his speech highlighting the importance of morals and ethical values which should be present in every leader.
Dr Babu Thomas co-coordinator of this seminar in his address focussed on the various types of leaders as well as myths and facts about leaders. He also mentioned that a good leader should have the knowledge about the business he is involved in.
P A Jose delivered the key note address. He spoke of the journey of MRPL through the crisis period during 2003 and the great comeback that was made 369 days later, a great example of exemplary leader the late Sudhir Raha.
Prathiba Shetty, joint coordinator of the seminar thanked everyone on and off the dais for their presence and their valuable contribution towards making the seminar a success.
