Sullia, Feb 7: A 23 year old man from Kanthamangala in Ajjavar allegedly kicked his pregnant wife in the stomach; as a result of which the wife and unborn baby were killed.
The accused is identified as Rajesh (23), son of Thimma who resides in a backward class colony. He allegedly killed his 7 month pregnant wife Vasanthi (19).
As per the information obtained, Rajesh in drunken stupor is said to have kicked his wife in the stomach on Tuesday night. She was soon rushed to a hospital in Mangalore.
Doctors who treated her said that as a result of the kick, the baby in the womb died immediately which required immediate operation to remove the baby. The loss of her baby and the tragic blow from her husband caused the death of Vasanthi on Wednesday night.
The accused Rajesh, his parents and brother are said to be absconding.
Sources said that, Rajesh was working for daily wages and in April last year, he got married to Vasanthi from Kasargod in a mass wedding held at Sree Chennakeshava temple in Sullia.
After their marriage, it is alledged that Rajesh on a daily routine subjected her to mental and physical torture as he used to come home drunk. When the news of torture was received at her maternal house, she was taken back home when she was three months pregnant. As her due date was approaching, it is said that she returned to her husband place three days ago.
