Udupi, Feb 3: Three students from Bangalore, studying in second PU class of the government PU college in Channapatna, reportedly tried to end their lives near Kadike near Badinidiyoor, Thottam, Malpe here on Sunday February 3 morning.
Two male students died, while the condition of the lone girl student, Saumya (18), is precarious. She is being treated in the intensive care unit of the government hospital here.
The deceased have been identified as Madhu (19) and Hemant (19). They were residents of Ramanagara district near Bangalore.
It is learnt that all the three went missing several days back, and a missing complaint was filed in Ramanagara police station ten days ago. It is gathered that Hemant and Saumya were in love, but their families were opposed to the alliance.
The three arrived at the sea shore near Malpe on Saturday afternoon, and ate supper mixed with insecticide at night. The poison did not have the desired impact on Saumya as she vomited immediately after consuming food.
The information above was provided by Saumya, who was able to talk to the policemen for some time, before becoming seriously sick again.
Hemant was from Kanva village while Saumya belongs to Anamanahalli. Madhu, hailing from Timmanadoddi village, was a close friend of Saumya.
Saumya went missing along with some gold ornaments on January 22. Hemant and Madhu also left their respective homes on this day. The family members of Madhu lodged police complaint on January 26 after conducting a thorough search at various places including houses of relatives, while missing complaint of Saumya was lodged on January 31. However, parents of Hemant, who were confident that their son would come back, did not lodge any complaint, it is learnt.
The locals, who found three lying in the sand on the beach Sunday morning, passed on the information to the local policemen. By then, Madhu had died, and the policemen carried both Hemant and Saumya, who were in semi-conscious state, to the hospital in ambulance. However, Hemant succumbed in the hospital, without responding to treatments.
Malpe police have registered a case. Investigations are on.
