Mangalore, Feb 2: Rajesh (30), an undertrial prisoner from Hubli, who was recuperating in the prison ward of the government Wenlock Hospital here, succeeded in giving the security personnel a slip on Friday February 1. His plan to escape was reportedly aided by his wife.
Rajesh faces several cases in Hubli, Bangalore, Tumkur, Haveri and other places in the state. Abduction of a lady, theft, and escape from jail, are some of the charges he is facing.
Rajesh reportedly pushed away head constable Umanath, who was on guard duty at the time, when lunch was being handed over to him. The policeman, who belongs to the city armed reserve contingent, is injured.
Rajesh’s wife, Preeti, who hails from Iddya near Suratkal, and who used to temporarily stay at Prajna transit hostel in Jappinamogaru in the city, came to the hospital in the afternoon and expressed her desire to feed her husband. She claimed that her husband had become mentally unstable, and that because of this condition, he had injured himself in the hand and neck regions with a blade when in jail. She said she had come to see for herself the condition of her husband.
When Preeti started chatting with her husband, another woman, who had accompanied her, went away supposedly for her blood tests. Thereafter, the husband and wife duo disappeared from the hospital.
