Laboratory staff and technicians have a tremendous role in imparting out day to day activities, for a simple reason , when a sick man who is admitted in the hospital, his diagnosis is difficult but if we go back to the literature, it has been stated that it took nearly 2000 years to establish what is called as a laboratory.
"In the year 1896, a laboratory started in the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where a group of American Pathologists, started the concept of Laboratory, so as to assist the physicians in healing the patients. If we go back to the health care sector, we will be surprised to know that every year about 6.75 millions is the input given to the diagnostic market, which constitutes 40% for equipments, hence what is important is that a technician has to upgrade oneself, so as to what deliver the best services to the patient in day-to-day practice", he added.
"Automation is the real sense of diagnosis today. If we just keep a equipment, that doesn’t serve the purpose, But there should be an interpreter, i.e the technicians, technocrats, to measure and check the results, to make sure that everything is fine and updated. Technicians should make sure that the patients are given the best and accurate diagnosis, so as to avoid unnecessary treatments", he said.
"Well trained Technocrats, Well Equipped Clinical Interface, Laboratory Workforce development, Research capacity and Lab Policy Develpoment are the strong pillars that make a Laboratory ideal", he added.
In his presidential address, Fr Patrick said that in the health care system, there was an hierarchy that the physicians are on the top level, nurses at the second, Technicians at the third and the health workers at last level.
"Today the concept is changing, it is the team in the top, that delivers the quality care to the patients. Physician, nurses, technician and health workers, all play a vital role in the team and are equal partners", Fr Patrick stated.
He added by saying. "quality and competence of the concerned department is a major part of the health care sector. Knowledge and experience is more important than the diplomatic degrees, to render quality service. these sort of progammes will help in building competemce and confidence, and ensure all the tenchincians to render their best service, along with quality based".
