Udupi, Jan 29: A seminar on ‘Women Harassment Act’ was inaugurated to create more awareness on the existing rules and regulations in favor of women at the DC office, Rajathadri, Manipal on Tuesday January 29.

Justice Narendra Kumar Gunaki (District and Sessions Judge) inaugurated the seminar. He said, “In this issue, the contribution of the police department is huge. They should take public in confidence and try to sort out problems at home instead of taking it in to the court.”

“Although harassment is not specifically defined, it can include repeated attempts to impose unwanted verbal communications and humiliation upon a victim in a manner that could be expected to cause distress or fear in any reasonable person and lead them to attempt suicide. Harassment of an individual can also occur when a person is harassing others connected with the individual, knowing that this behavior will affect their victim as well as the other people that the person
appears to be targeting their actions towards”, he added.

“We should not forget that we are Indians and we have a great culture to demand we are turning our self to the British which is not a good sign. They left India and we leave their culture and adopt ours; this will reduce the crime levels upto a certain limit. Whenever women  are victimized, the reason will be lack of her own family support. This situation should be changed”, he further added.

M T Rejo, CEO Prabhakar Sharma and Rita Martha (Women and Child Welfare Department) and others were present.
