Mangalore, Jan 27: St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore and Mangalore Diocesan Chair - in - Christianity of Mangalore University jointly organized ‘Cancer Education and Awareness Programme’ on Saturday January 26 at Sacred Heart Hall of St Joseph’s Seminary.
This informative programme on cancer awareness was given by Dr Suresh Rao and his team from Mangalore Institute of Oncology – a cancer speciality hospital.
Dr Suresh Rao explained the various types of cancer and the reasons for it. He also mentioned the four kinds of treatment available: surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy. Dr Suresh Rao also informed about cervical cancer and breast cancer which are prevalent in india.
Dr J Akbar enlightened the gathering about the colorectal cancer, its stages and treatment. He also mentioned when there is blood in the stool and change in bowel habits then care needs to be taken. At the end the doubts of the audience were clarified.
Fr Leo Lasrado welcomed the gathering and introduced the team of doctors.
Fr John Baptist Saldanha and Fr Leo Lasrado co-ordinated the programme.
The rector of the seminary Fr Joseph Martis, the staff and the students of St Joseph’s Seminary actively participated in the awareness programme. “Early detection of Cancer leads to early cure” was the crux of the awareness programme.
The cancer education and awareness programme enlightened the seminarians and created the much needed awareness of cancer.
