Mangalore, Jan 24: Police have arrested a person in connection with a theft that took place at Sri Sooryanarayana Temple in Naravi, Beltangady on May 14, 2012.
Addressing a press meet held here on Thursday January 24, SP Abhishek Goyal said that the accused has been identified as Chandrashekarappa from Davangere.
The SP said that the thief looted silver jewellery weighing 4 kg, 28 gm of gold jewellery and some cash from the Temple
The accused was caught by police during night patrol in Keddu Junction, Badagakarandoor, Beltangady on January 20 around 1 am. Police saw iron rods tied to his bike. On suspicion, the police interrogated Chandrashekarappa and he is said to have revealed his involvement in the theft.
Police have seized all the jewellery, a bike (KA 16 U 4119), and a mobile phone, altogether worth Rs 3 lac, from his Davangere house.
The SP said that the arrested was also involved in several theft cases filed in police stations at Kumta, Naravi, Mulky and Honnavar.
The investigations were guided by SP Abhishek Goyal and MN Anuchethan, former ASP of Puttur sub-division. SM Varnekar, DySP of Puttur sub-divison, CPI NG Bhaskar Rai of Belthangady station, PSI Abdul Khader of Venur station, ASI Vasudev Nayak, ASI Sheenappa Gowda, officials such as Tharanath, Praveen M, Harish, Prasanna Kumar, Uday Gowda, Nagaraj, Sathish, drivers BN Budki and Pradeep, computer division – Rithesh Kumar, Prashanth, Manjunath, Sampath were part of the investigating team.
