Mangalore, Jan 22: SCC’s Day was meaningfully celebrated at Shakthinagar on Sunday January 20.
Fr Joachim Fernandes, St Joseph Seminary celebrated the Holy Mass along with the parish priest Fr Walter D'Souza.
The Holy Bible was brought in a procession by the vice president of the parish and was enthroned by lighting lamps around it by the seven Gurkars, and the parish priest, symbolizing seven SCC units and the parish.
During the offertory procession, offertory items of food items collected from every family was brought in 25 baskets to be distributed to the 21 catholic families and four non Christian families of Shakthinagar to commemorate the silver jubilee of SCC’s in Mangalore Diocese.
Soon after the mass, preparation for evening dinner began. More than 150 parishioners rendered their services to prepare evening meals. At 4 pm ward gurkars supplied food packets to all those who could not attend due to old age and sickness.
It was a very colorful evening at 5.30 pm. Cultural programme based on Bible and SCC’s was staged by seven wards.
15 leaders who promote SCC’s were honoured by Fr Joachim Fernandes, Fr Edwin Correa, and the parish priest.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions organized on the occasion of SCC’s Day by Fr Edwin.
Fr Joachim Fernandes and Fr Edwin Correa were the guests of honour.
Asha Monteiro and Arun Lobo compered the programme; Mr Denis Machado gave the welcome speech, Vincent D''Souza proposed the vote of thanks, and Fr Walter D''Souza recited prayer before meals.
More than 600 people were present and enjoyed the delicious meals prepared by the parishioners.
