Moodbidri, Jan 21: The Koti-Chennaya National Billava Sports Meet 2013, organized by Brahmashri Narayanaguru Swamy Seva Sangha Moodbidri, was inaugurated at Swaraj Maidan Moodbidri on Sunday January 20.
Rashtriya Baillavara Mahamandala Mulky sponsored the sports meet.
Rashtriya Billava Mahamandala president Jaya C Suvarna inaugurated the event. Moodbidri Alvas Education Foundation president Dr M Mohan Alva initiated the sports meet by releasing balloons in the air.
"Koti-Chennaya and Narayana Guru, who spread the message of equality, truth and justice, are role models to all religions," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, state muzrai minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary said that Koti-Chennaya fostered the spirits of the young hearts through sports. Victory and loosing is common in sports, everyone needs to accept it equally, he said.
In his address, former central minister B Janardhan Poojary said that with a view to ensure protection of women against rapes and atrocities, Karate Kreedotsava will be organized during the coming Dasara celebrations and the achievers in Karate will be felicitated.
Brahmashri Narayanaguru Swami Seva Sangha honorary president M Seenappa presided over the function.
International sportswoman Sahana Kumari was felicitated. Jagadish Kumble, Akshatha Poojary, Sanal Padmanabh, Pradeep Kumar, Anil Poojary, Yogeesh, Punith and Sudarshan were also honoured on the occasion.
National and international level players Ashok, Anusha and Preethi lead the colourful Kreeda Jyothi procession that began from Hanuman temple and handed over the Kreeda Jyothi to Sahana Kumari, after which Ashok received it and inaugurated.
Sports teams from Beluvai, Bantwal, Kundapura, Iruvail, Mumbai, Oune and Bangalore took part in the march fast along with Koragara Chende from Barkur and Honnavara band team.
Seva Sangha president Padmayya B Suvarna was present on the occasion.
Shanker Kotian welcomed the gathering.
Praveen Kumar compered and Padmanabh Salian proposed the vote of thanks.
