Mangalore, Jan 19: The success story of yoga dates back to Vedic period as Indian sages were expert introverts in invention and obtaining knowledge. However until people from the west echoed the importance of yoga, Indians in the contemporary world were least bothered, while commercialization of yoga through the way of enveloping it with marketing trends is a matter of concern, asserted higher education minister C T Ravi.
He spoke after inaugurating two-day national conference on Yoga Therapy 2013 jointly organized by department of human consciousness and yogic sciences and Dharmanidhi Yogapeetha and Department of AYUSH here at Mangala Auditorium, Mangalore University on Friday January 18.
He added that in the days of adulteration emerging in the forefront, yoga which was a liberal gift by our ancestors to the entire world, now being given patents. This should be curbed, minister asserted.
He said practicing yoga enables individuals to imbibe the qualities of self confidence and savor the victory forever. Searching happiness in the materialistic world will be a short living process, he said and added yoga is both physical and mental exercise. In the days of people racing with the time to finish their work, yoga helps in overcoming stress and one can relish the true contentment in life, he said.
Dr K Krishna Bhat, former professor of Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic Sciences delivered key note address.
Professor T C Shivashankara Murthy, honorable vice chancellor, Mangalore University presided. Professor P S Yadapadithaya, registrar among others were present.
Later district in-charge minister C T Ravi distributed laptops to SC/ST research scholars at old senate hall. Speaking on the occasion he said that reservation to backward classes needs to be introspected as such benefits should not be a permanent solution. As per the whims of architects of Indian constitution, reservation policy were to be amended after 10 years, however the purpose did not help in bringing them in the nation’s mainstream society. The reservation policy should be amended to assist the unprivileged section of the society, he said.
Professor T C Shivashankar Murthy said that enrolment of SC/ST students to UG, PG and PhD were increased over a period of time in Mangalore University which is a good sign.
