Kolkata, Jan 19 (IANS): A watch that doubles as a phone can now keep women safe in India thanks to an inbuilt tracking device, says a leading global watchmaker here Friday.
"The new Burg 15 watch or watch-phone has all the features of a cell phone. Besides it has an inbuilt tracker that can track movements of the person who puts it on. I have heard about the rape cases recently and I feel this watch cum phone can keep the women safe.
"One press of a button and the alarm goes off and you can know the person is in danger," said Burg Watches CEO Hermen Van Den Burg while launching the Burg 15 model in the city.
The new watch-phone of Burg, which has a presence in India for an year now, is available in a variety of colours and designs to suit men, women and children.
"You can choose from a variety of colours and designs. The cool kid on the block can go for the stylish ones and flaunt it," said Burg about the watches.
With a targeted consumer base of youngsters, Burg aims to sell a lakh of the watches by end of this year and plans to operate from 300 sales points across the country.
"We feel India has a large number of youngsters. They like use new stuff and this smart-watch can give them a lot of options. We will sell from 300 sales counters across the country and hope to reach out to the masses," said Burg.
