Mangalore, Jan 17: Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary on Wednesday January 16 lambasted his own party members during a press meet and said that according to the declaration made by Congress members while joining the party, they are supposed to wear only khadi as the party upholds the principles of secularism, socialism and democracy.
The comment from Poojary comes close on the heels of his advice to a Congress member who wore saffron clothes to a party's programme. Poojary said that he was not against any colour, but it was his duty to inform the member of his party on the importance of wearing khadi.
"Khadi symbolises sacrifice and has its own stature, though in recent years the colour has been misrepresented by many," Poojary lamented.
He added that there is need for a kind of mechanism in the Congress party to scrutinize newcomers, Poojary said.
Coming down heavily on the BJP-led state government, he said that both BJP and KJP will be rejected by the people in the state. "BJP came to power reciting the tune of Ramarajya, but resorted to mismanagement of the state. It supported caste discrimination, Ajalu and Made Snana rituals. The BJP-led state government also failed in appointing the Lokayukta," he pointed out and challenged CM Jagadish Shettar to go ahead and appoint the Lokayukta 'if he was a man of moral conviction'. "BJP’s high command is the weakest and is fit only to deliver lecture to its members," Poojary said.
Congress leaders Arun Coelho and Harikrishna Bantwal were present at the press meet.
