Mangalore: Agno Fest Begins Amid Much Fanfare, Gurukiran Steals Show

Mangalore, Dec 7: It was one-of-a kind scene at city's St Agnes College (Autonomous) here on Friday December 7 as inter-collegiate 'Agno Fest 2012' got off to a spectacular, star-studded start.
Noted Sandalwood music director, actor and singer Gurukiran added the glamour quotient to the event with his stunning performance during the inaugural ceremony. The jam-packed venue, chielfy consisting of vibrantly dressed youngsters, cheered and rejoiced all the way.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the fest, Gurukiran expressed his happiness on being part of such a colourful occasion. Stressing on the need for cultivating one's personality through extra-curricular activities during college days, he urged the students to showcase their talents whenever they get an opportunity, and also focus on their studies at the same time.
Principal of the College Sr Prem D'Souza emphasized on youth power and said that youngsters should take the lead to shape the nation by nurturing love and fostering unity. She entreated the students to overcome all fears. Explaining the purpose behind hosting the event, she said that Agno Fest was a part of the college curriculum aimed at encouraging students to showcase their talents and bring the best in them.
The fest is being held on the theme 'Bonne Volonte - Cirque' meaning goodwill together with humour.
Prior to the inauguration, a grand and colourful procession accompanied the guests to the auditorium.
Altogether, 12 colleges are participating in the two-day event, during which various competitions will be held in commerce, science and arts fields.
Staff coordinator of the fest Malvika Shetty welcomed while student council president Fallon Lasrado delivered the introductory address. Staff coordinator Prajwal Rao proposed the vote of thanks while student Rovena compered.
Among those present were superior of St Agnes Convent Sr Maria Kripa, joint secretary Sr Olivia, vice-principal Sr Supriya and others.
