Kundapur: Tanker Overturns at Trasi - Cleaner Killed

Kundapur, Dec 7: The cleaner of a tanker died in an accident that occured on NH 66 at Trasi here on Thursday December 6.

The deceased has been identified as Subramanya (23) from Hassan. The tanker overturned near Vailankanni Welding Works while trying to give way for an approaching vehicle.

The tanker was transporting fish oil from Kota in Udupi to Chattisgarh. When the vehicle reached Trasi, the driver swerved to his left to give way for an approaching vehicle to pass. He lost control and as a result, the tanker overturned.

The cleaner sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kundapur hospital. However, he died on the way.

Tanker driver Shashikumar and another person who was travelling along had a miraculous escape.

The accident led to traffic jam on NH 66 for sometime. Gangolli police arrived at the spot and restored normalcy.

A case has been resgistered in the Gangolli police station.

    Hence all tankers should have compulsory 'Governor' to check speeding. The liquid cargo in the tanker tends the vehicles to get pushed to one side while it is on the bend, humps or while applying brake and that is very dangerous if the tanker is speeding.
    Please note that high center of gravity that is the load's weight by the tanker is carried high up off the road. This makes the vehicle top-heavy and easy to roll over. Liquid tankers are especially easy to roll over. Tests have shown that tankers can turn over at the speed limits posted for curves like highway curves and on-ramp or off-ramp curves well below the posted speeds.

    Very SLIPPERY fish oil....Wonder what OIL the driver was full on??

    Tanker is licensed to transport only Motor Spirit (please see the Data sheet on the backside of the tanker) but it is transporting Fish oil to Chhattisgarh. Something is fishy in this movement.... In this case, it is nothing but food adulteration. This is India!!!! Moreover, either sub kuch bikta hai aur chalta hai.
    Hats off to Govt. agencies for being in deep sleep. People are openly using Petrol tankers to transport Fish oil to other states. Which tanker is transporting what God only knows.
